In AI 10 you may select the text and change the values in the colour palette, to 0,0,0,0 in CMYK or 255,255,255 ib RGB.

    1. I'm not meaning to be obnoxious, although I am very tired of reading posts about basic, basic stuff that really is easily gleaned from the manual, or solved using some simple logic.
    2. My email address is included in my profile because I don't like to be an anonymous jerk, however it's not meant for sending hissy-fit messages to, thank you very much...

By the way, I don't think my reply was obnoxious, I actually thought it was pretty witty (OK I'm being sarcastic now...)

    Bert,

On most nights I think I'd be right with you about reading the manual (or lack of it). But my mood tonight wants to cry out a Braveheart's "MERCY" :) I really think that a true forum should welcome any questions, and if any of us feel a question is too simple or not even basically researched we should probably opt to just not answer it. Someone will anyway. That's MHO.

Perhaps, but giving a nudge to people who won't make the slightest effort is also a function of these fora, IMHO

And if you can't figure out the answer to a very basic question with the manual or the online help, what are the chances that reading the answers here will help you?

Let's cut out the personal attacks folks. Basic question, but with text there are three ways to select text (Selection tool only, Direct selection tool, but if the text is already not selected, you can use Direct Selection tool and click on color, or use Selection tool, then use Text tool to drag across letters to character select, then click on color or fill wished. OR, you can use Selection tool to select and then Eye Dropper to pick color from any other object, palette, or color bar. If, one just completed the text and thus, this text is still "active", then just drag and click on color wished, but once the text is no longer active (selected) you can't use text tool to color THIS text, as you'll just start new text. I suspect this is your problem. It's covered in how text is handled in HELP and Manual, not indexed to color. Not everyone gets a manual with CS packages. It's in PDF format on the CD (documentation), or in Help. And go for TYPE, not TEXT: "Before you can format or edit type, you must select it. There are three levels of selection when working with type: selecting characters, selecting type objects, and selecting type paths."

I was going to ask a similar question, but too be honest I am amazed at how hostile, aggressive and conceited you all are, you were learners once and no question is stupid, you all ought to be ashamed of yourselves..

Suffice to say, thank you Bob for your help..

    Hi,
I've been struggling with the same problem for a longer time, but finally came up with a solution, that is actually very simple. In my case it was a CTRL+Y combination that triggers "outline" (view/outline). And because I also unintentionally pressed CTRL+SHIFT, the Y and Z letters swapped places. So when I wanted to undo something I actually played with the outline option. It really made me tired, so I hope this post will help some future Illustrator beginner. CHeers!
