The problem could be related to the gamut of your printer. Your monitor may be able to display a wider spectrum than your printer can print - since you do not mention what printer, it's a possibility.

But before you could even tell, you'd have to calibrate your monitor, and ensure you are printing with color management.

In order to better assure that what you see is what you get, spend 15 minutes at Ian Lyons' site. Everyone who asks the question about monitor v. print, gets sent there, and invariably, does far, far better.

Thanks fpor your reply. I understand what you are telling me but I think the problem seems to be related more to losind the effect when the image is saved more than the printer itself. If you have any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

This sounds like an old printer driver, such as a Postscript level-1.

Try downloading the latest driver that is available for your printer.

Again I must say that I'm a newbie and don't really know much, but when I flatten the image some of the text effects immediately disappear. If I delete the flattening in the history box they are back. That's why I think it may not be the printers fault.

All I want is to print the image as it appears on screen with all its effects. Nothing really fancy either, just drop shadow, outer glow, bevel, etc. just newbie stuff.

    Looking forward to your replies,
    Thanks

Try "MERGE" rather than "FLATTEN". There have been reports of "FLATTEN" causing some problems with some effects.

I'm going to give up soon. I tried merge instead of flatten. Instead of losing some effects they are now intensifying some of the effects. I must be missing a step somewhere. Maybe I'll have to delete the effects and try something else.
    Any suggestions are welcome,
    Thanks

First, as far as I'm aware, there have been reports (unsubstantiated) of the opposite of what Bill had said. To wit, best to flatten not merge. This comes from a thread in which Mike O reported a possible bug. See the following thread:

    Mike Ornellas "Merging layers" 5/27/03 7:33pm </cgi-bin/webx?14@@.1de944f8/13>

The biggest point though, J.C., is you MUST evaluate your image at 100% magnification. That is the ONLY true representation of your image. So if it looks like you are losing layer effects, verify that it is happening when you view it at 100%. All other magnifications are an "approximation" of your image.

And at the risk of sounding like a snot, you admit you are a newbie; you have been directed to Ian Lyons' site on color management. If you do not follow the advice given, you must know something that you are not telling us.

If you want your prints to match your screen. Read Ian Lyons' information.

Also, do not evaluate your styles, effects, etc., at anything other than 100%.

If you want a different answer, either post more information or ask a different question.
