HELP ME : check for locked record

How can i check if the record i want to select is already locked by
another user? There is a way to know the resource id associated with the
record in a table and compare that with those shown by the sp_lock?

There is no really clean way to do this but if you check out hte
"LOCK_TIMEOUT setting" in BooksOnLine it gives a pretty good description of
a way that may be of use.

This is my problem:
I have 2 table Orders and Items . When a user select an order (to make
an invoice for example) i want other user can't select that order for
the same operation, but they can select orders and their details for
read only operation (to see the order list for example).

I hope my english is clear.
