Default help me figure out how to recreate this logo...

hi, a client brought in this logo and we need to recreate it for higher quality printing:

    logo (click) <http://www.headexplosion.com/jonathan/print/dynasol-logo.jpg>

Setting the type is no problem. I have that done. It's that squarish part with the circle and lines. I created a square and a circle and sorta traced the lines, but it ended up looking realllly terrible.

Any suggestions on how to recreate this?

    Jonathan:

This would be an easy project to redo with the pen tool. If you don't know how to use the pen tool, this would be a great project to practice on. For an experienced Illustrator user it should take no more than 5-10 minutes (probably more like 3 minutes) and then you've got your vector.

    probably more like 3 minutes

There is that competitive streak coming out. Well 2 minutes 45 seconds here.

On the other hand, any job that CSRs hand me, they are told 15 minutes to OPEN the file let alone edit it. :)

I love it when they ask what I can do to the file in 5 minutes. Nothing It is 15 minutes minimum bill time or nothing. (unless the modification is to be given away, then I could do it in 5)

Hi John! Competitive streak? 2 min, 45 sec? Did you redraw it for him? :)

No, but I am not above lying and cheating to win. XD

If you delete the "dynasol-logo.jpg" from the address from the link, you can get to the image.

actually, I have a lot of experience with the pen tool, and that is what I was using. It wasn't very clean looking, even after using the smooth tool. So guess what I ended up doing that worked out best anyway? I went to the client's website, discovered there was a flash intro to their homepage with their logo. Assuming it was vector, I used flash and did some conversions and saved it as an illustrator file, and voila! I had my logo in vector format, ready to go! How glorious! :)

    Thanks for your help everyone.

John: I'm eating humble pie. It took me more like 10 minutes and even then the red spokes were not perfect.

I was joking about the time. When you mentioned 3 minutes, it reminded me of a Saturday Night Live skit where contestants compete by claiming they can name a narcotic in 5 hits, 4 hits, 3 hits and this loser of a person always wins because he lets the respectable contestant try to name the narcotic and they always miss it.

Anyway, back to reality. 7 to 8 minutes yielded the completed sellable image for me. :)

I lock up everytime I try to see your file. What's that about?

I'm on a PC right now but I'll try to do it on my Mac tomorrow.

"7 to 8 minutes yielded the completed sellable image for me. "

Pretty impressive. Took me about almost 11. Can anyone beat 7 minutes?
