What's your set up? Do you have a Cable/DSL router? Any other systems
on your LAN, if you have a LAN?

You probably connect using PPPoE (in a few parts of the country it's DHCP I
think). So if you're connecting directly to the modem you need to put your
verizon username and password in the PPPoE settings in system
preferences/network. If you're using a router you need to put the verizon
username/password in the router (probably http://192.168.1.1 ) and then use
DHCP in system preferences/network. And connect using ethernet of course.

Well that's what I did this morning with verizon dsl and 10.2 and both
worked :)

Sam,

I suggest you call your DSL provider and ask them.

If you're using PPPoE, you'll need a name and password in OS X's
Network control panel. They can help you with that. Once you've got
that, you'll sail right in.

PPPoE and DHCP are not the same thing.

This would sound like a reasonable suggestion except in my experience
Verizon doesn't actually know that there is an OS X and will want you to
connect via MacPOET which, of course, will not work in OS X.

Check the current minimum requirements for Verizon DSL service, now they
list OS X as the minimum and do not even mention OS 9. As best as I can
tell, they are not including MacPOET on the starter CD anymore. But they
have been doing a major revamping of their support site lately, so many
of the downloads that used to be there are not findable. Since they
decided to link up with MSN for content, the visible Mac support has
decreased quite a bit. Hopefully the phone support still has people who
can supply Mac help.
