Help Needed With Planning Project

[Confused!]

Hi everyone.

Just wondered if you could help me with the planning of something I'm gonna
work on for college.

Basically, I want to create a website where users can make a profile of
themselves etc and then be able to update, delete certain things etc. Thing is
after the profile is created, I want the users (anyone for that matter) to be
able to view them with a simple URL like [url]www.something.com/their_name[/url]. I
thought the best way of doing this would be to create a folder using the
'create' function in MX after they have input their details to the database
using one of the form variables to name it. The next process would then copy a
template file from the root into this folder using 'copy' called index.cfm.
This would mean that typing the URL wouldn't be a problem because when it hits
the folder it automatically finds the template index.cfm.

So far so good, however - now that the data is in the database and the folders
have been created etc, how would that particular template know which data to
pull from the database in order for it to be viewed properly. e.g...how would
the index.cfm template in folder called 'myfolder' know which data was meant to
be assigned to it. Hmm, I'm thinking maybe I'm getting out of my depth here.

Anyway, this is just some crazy idea I had, I havn't had a chance to sit down
and research it properly just yet so if you know any ideas/solutions or
alternative methods to achieve what I'm trying to do that would be great,

You might be able to solve this issue with Search Engine Safe (SES) URLs.

Erm, well, I'm not that experienced so I didn't really understand what it meant, haha. Any ideas on my method? Would it even work? Any helps great thanks!! :)
