help please why on earth are these things not working
hi a couple of questions if you could Please help
using MX version
how can I speed up movement when zoomed in the redraw is really slow? Isn't there settings for it?
the Guides are not showing no matter what the color? I Pressed most of the view buttons, still no go??
I've been importing pitures and some of them come in really small when it is a large bitmap and it ignores transparencies??
Thankyou kindly for your response

select a lower on-screen image resolution. This will speed up redraw, but
things won't look as pretty.
If your artwork is all vectors, be aware that files with many paths (in the
range of 5,000 or more) will redraw very slowly in FHMXa. Ungrouping complex
nested groups helps speed up redraw marginally.
In your Layers panel, is your Guides layer above all other layers? It should> the Guides are not showing no matter what the color? I Pressed most of the

be.
What format are the images -- TIFF, PNG, GIF, etc.? The image size (in> I've been importing pitures and some of them come in really small when it is a

inches, mm or points) is set by the application that saved the image file.
Either resize the image in FH or use an image editor such as Photoshop to
change the image dimensions without resampling. This will change the
resolution (pixels per inch.)
Be careful, though. What is the final intended purpose of the document?
Documents intended for high-end Postscript printing require much higher
resolution images than web page creation.

Re: help please why on earth are these things not working
thanks Judie, very informative one question though what is "without resampling".
I had alot of difficulty importing bitmaps into FH:-( but as you say I think the resolution and size of files was the issue
I could easily cut and paste a small file without transparencys though Tryed importing Tif and jpeg and png with 300+ resolution and they didn't work. All of a sudden I import the same photo but as a greyscale B&W and it worked. Strange indeed???
thanks again I appreciate your kind input:-)

the inch dimensions of an image without changing the number of pixels in the
image.
For example, if you scan a 1-inch postage stamp at resolution of 2400 ppi
(pixels per inch) save as TIFF, it would import into the FH file as one inch
wide. You could scale it within FreeHand, but not resample it.
In Photoshop, it's possible to change the image size, uncheck 'Resample
Image', specify 8 inches wide which would automatically change the
resolution to 300 ppi. Import the resized image into Freehand and it will
display at 8 inches wide.
Some images formats, such as GIF, are intended for web display only and do
not include inch dimensions. FreeHand displays them at 72 ppi.
Is the job intended for high-end offset press printing or web page design?> I had alot of difficulty importing bitmaps into FH:-( but as you say I think

No it's not strange at all. A grayscale image contains only one color> All of a sudden I import the same photo but as a greyscale B&W and it

channel, making it one third the size of an RGB image or one quarter the
size of a CMYK image.
If you want specific advice, then you'll have to tell us the exact format,
size and number of images in the FH file you are having problems with. Also
list your computer platform, operating system and the amount of RAM
available on your machine.
