Help setting up software raid on RH 8.0!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

I am attempting to set up software raid during my installation of RH 8. I have 3 6 gig drives and I am attempting to set up raid level 0. This is not for any type of production box, so redundancy is not an issue. I am looking ot set up the following partitions, /, /usr, /usr/local,swap, /opt, /var, and home. I want these filesystems to be spanned across my array. Like I said earlier, I'm going for speed not redundancy. The RH manual is very confusing on this (or is it just me). Default Help setting up software raid on RH 8.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am attempting to set up software raid during my installation of RH 8. I
have 3 6 gig drives and I am attempting to set up raid level 0. This is not
for any type of production box, so redundancy is not an issue. I am looking
    ot set up the following partitions, /, /usr, /usr/local,swap, /opt, /var,
and home. I want these filesystems to be spanned across my array. Like I
said earlier, I'm going for speed not redundancy. The RH manual is very
confusing on this (or is it just me). When I go to initally set up the
array, it asks to create a partition and to select the disk(s) the partition
will be on. Here's the tricky part, when setting up say, /, and I try to
select all 3 disks to span all, i get an error message telling me I can only
select 1 disk. How the hell is selecting to put / on only one disk going to
give me any kind of performance increase? I was under the impression that
with raid level 0 I could but a little bit of / on each disk. I mean isn't
that the purpose of raid?. Somebody, anybody, help
    please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am trying to do this at install time, as I am a newbie. I am attempting
this based on the instructions Redhat provides in the customization guide
for RHL 8.0. Any other suggestions?

    Tom,

It is possible to do this at install time. I've done RAID-0, 1, and 5 at
install time when testing various scsi & fibre-channel controllers for
    compatibility.

You're doing a graphical install, yes?

Use disk druid to first partition the drives and then create a raid
    device.

Once you create a raid device in the disk druid screen, it will look to
the installer as one drive. So in your case you would create equal sized
partitons on all 3 drives, then click the "make raid" button, then assign
the raid device to say "/var", then repeat the process for your other
    partitions.

If you need more specif info then go to RedHat's site and download the
    installation PDF file.

Or look at this HTML version of the instructions which make it pretty
clear (although it says "RHL-9", the same technique applies to RH8):

Everyone get's this response once-in-awhile... you've got to RTFM:
    http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/custom-guide/ch-software-raid.html

It's pretty straight forward if you follow the guide.
