Help? Tools frozen on eraser.
Hi,
I'm wondering if any one has run into this, or knows of a fix. I'm using Fireworks MX on Windows XP.
I have one file which I've bee working on and now suddenly when I open it the cursor is stuck on the eraser tool. I click on other tools but it doesn't do anything.
At first it only did it when I opened this file, or any file subsequently. Now it happens even with new file created just after opening Fireworks. Is this a corrupted file? Should I delete the fireworks.ini file? I'm a recent windows convert from mac and I seem to remember that is the equivalent of "trashing the prefs file" on the mac. Or should I uninstall and reinstall Fireworks?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Lon

Should I delete theYes, and the Preferences.txt file. In XP you'll find those in the...> fireworks.ini file?
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Macromedia\Fireworks MX
....folder.

Re: Help? Tools frozen on eraser.
Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, and strangely enough I can find neither file anywhere on my hard drive. (Searched for all .ini files - none seem to be for fireworks, and no preferences files for fireworks at all.)
Should I reinstall Fireworks? Also, another unrelated .png file opens fine. Should I just copy/ paste all layers from the corrupted file to a new file?
thank you!

The Preferences file is there too.

Re: Help? Tools frozen on eraser.
Mark,
Thank you, but this is seeming like more of a mystery.
If I search my C drive (my only drive) for "application data", I find one in C:/Windows, and one in C:/Documents and Settings/Owner. Neither of these appear to have anything from Macromedia in them.
Searching on "preferences" , the only things seeming to have anything to do with Macromedia are in the plug-ins folder, or a .js file in shared/scripts.
Oh, well. It is working fine, so perhaps it doesnt' matter.
thanks,
Lon

Set your Explorer prefs to show hidden files and folders. The Documents and Settings folder or one of the subfolders like Application Data may be hidden. In Windows Explorer, choose Tools > Folder Options... click View and find the Hidden Files and Folders settings.
