Help with a Photo Effect...
Hey all,
Im not sure if this will come across clearly or not, but Im going to give it a try.
Im looking for a tutorial on how do make a photo have "brushed" edges. You know the one...where it looks like the picture was painted and the edges have an uneven quality toward it. Is this something that can be done using Photoshop's filters or do you need a special plug-in?
Any help would be great. Im looking to see if I can find a link showing an example and will post if I find one.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with a Photo Effect...
1. Create layer mask filled with black
2. Select entire picture
3. Contract selection an amount a tad more than how big you want the border.
4. Click on layer mask icon and hit backspace. You will see the picture with the edge masked.
5. Still working on the mask. Using a brush that has uneven characteristics and working in a way that makes your hand unsteady, erase along the edge where the mask meets the picture.
That's one way to do the edge.
Or you can search using google and find plugins that make frames. I think Extensis and Auto F/X have these.

Re: Help with a Photo Effect...
1. Make a selection that's slightly smaller than the entire image (you should probably make a copy of your original first, if there are several layers, and flatten it)
2. Press Q to go into quick mask mode
3. Do filter/brush strokes/sprayed strokes (or spatter, you can experiment) (you'll need to mess around with the settings)
4. Press Q again to get out of quick mask
5. hit ctrl-shift-I to reverse your selection
6. hit delete.
You'll probably need to experiment with your original selection and with filter settings, but it works really well.

Re: Help with a Photo Effect...
Another Idea is to go to the adobe studio exchange site and go through their brushes. People have made free custom brushes for edges like that.
