Default help with airport extreme and powerbook!!!

Hello;
I've been trying to set-up my airport extreme card/base station with my
powerbook G4 with MAC OS 10.2 and while everything seems to be set up fine,
I can't surf the web! I'm on Telus ADSL. The computer appears to recognize
the base station and tells me it's connected with a signal -- the base
station flashes as if it's communicating with the internet. However, my
webpages wont load and I get an error message saying an error/failure
occurred. I've checked system preferences/network, set it to airport, etc.
My internet works fine on its own, so that's not it. I'm going crazy! Any
suggestions would be great!
thanks,
meg

First: how far can you ping? Can you ping the base station by its IP
address? If there is another machine on your internal network can you
ping that by its address? Finally, can you ping the DNS server Telus
provides you? And is that DNS server listed in the preferences for the
AirPort card? Next, try loading Google by IP address
(http://216.239.53.99/) with your browser. If the internal stuff
succeeds while the external fails, the problem probably lies with the
AirPort base station's configuration. Maybe you can post a little
diagram of the network, identifying the bits that connect you with your
provider.

Second: If you can ping by IP number, try pinging by name. If the
pinging by number works but pinging by name doesn't, the problem lies
with your resolver and not with the network itself.

Ping:

Open a terminal (I am assuming you are using OS X) and type

ping 127.0.0.1

which means "see if the localhost, which is this same computer, can see
network packets addressed to it".

It will almost undoubtedly spew a lot of lines with the end looking like
0.4 ms

Hit control-C to stop it.

Type

ping localhost

to do the same thing by address; this uses the local 'resolver' to
figure out that 'localhost' means 127.0.0.1. Ctrl-C again when you get
bored with this.

Now see if you can ping the internal Airport interface (should be in the
setup.)

And so on.

If you put results here maybe we can get a little further along.

Meg,

Does your DSL connection use PPPoE? Ask your ISP, and let us know.
While you have them on the phone, get your name and password for the
ISP's PPPoE connection, if you do indeed have PPPoE.
