Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
Don't know if you ever solved your problem but I did. I now use GraphicConverter ($30, <http://order.kagi.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?storeID=2QE&&)>
or
ReadIris. Both run the ADF just fine.

Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
I got a new all-in-one that has a Scan to PDF function that actually works. It's a shame that I wound up giving Adobe roughly the same amount of money as I paid for the new all-in-one. If I had known ahead of time that Acrobat on the Mac doesn't work with ADFs, I would have gone straight to the new all-in-one.

Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
@khrusallis: How do you use ADF with GraphicConverter? Can it save to multi-page PDFs?
@jeffrey: It used to work in previous versions and it works with different vendors and is it still unknown if the error lies on HPs or Adobes side. Anyway, I still hope that this will be fixed in one of the next releases of either the HP driver or Acrobat.

Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
Hey
Yes, GraphicConverter uses the ADF "out of the box" with no special configuration. You can get an eval copy to prove it to yourself.
Once you scan all the pages in, you can save in a zillion different formats including PDF and TIFF, for example, to save your multi-page document. The only thing you are missing is the ability to do double-sided, which is a bit of a pain.
GraphicConverter does have a nice feature where you can save the multiple pages to individual files. This would allow you to renumber them using some utility. You could do all the front sides and all the back sides, saving to two different directories, rename the files using Automator in Mac, then merge them all back into one file using Acrobat or Graphic Converter.
Yea, I regret buying Acrobat; it does not do the most important thing I need it to.
Good Luck

Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
I posted an Automator script I used at www.homepage.mac.com/khrusallis.
I use it because GraphicConverter cannot keep track of scanning both sides of a page.
Here's what I do:
0. Create directories desktop/scans/odd, desktop/scans/even, desktop/scans/temp
1. Scan odd pages (put in directory desktop/scans/odd)
2. Scan even pages (put in directory desktop/scans/even)
3. Run the Automator script MergeEvenOdd
Here's what the script does:
1. asks you where odd pages are
2. asks you where temp directory is (it will be greyed out in selection box so you will have to delete that one and select the temp directory you will be using)
3. asks you where even pages are
4. asks you where temp directory is again (make sure it's not grey)
5. asks you where temp directory is again
6. opens merged PDF, with pages in order
7. asks you where temp directory is again
8. deletes temporary files in temp directory
You'll need to save the PDF from step 6.
Maybe you'll find it useful. It's very crude. Once you see the logic in Automator, you can use different finder commands so you don't have to enter "temp" and "odd" and "even" directories all the time. I don't know how to make it machine independent based on what is there.
Kirk
PS There are some test files you can download and unzip on the desktop to run the script on to make sure it's working.

Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
Sounds like a quite useful automator script. I suggest that you also post it on MacOSXhints.com :-).
As for GraphicConverter: I bought my license over 10 years ago, so I know this software quite well. I had simply forgotten, that GC scans to a multipage document when using the ADF :-).

Re: help with document feeder in Acrobat
For what it is worth, I needed a fast duplex scanner so I bought a Visioneer XP 470 and it works well when using it through Virtual PC. Unfortunately, there are no Mac drivers and you can't use the Virtual Rescan from Kofax because the emulation is not fast enough (unless you are using boot camp). To get the document to the Mac, I just have it scan to a shared folder that is actually on the Mac.
