Default Hiding Masked Elements in Outline

I'm a recent Illustrator convert from FreeHand.

Is there a way to hide elements outside a mask in Outline mode? I'm used to creating masks with the masked objects fully "masked." I am accidentally selecting objects outside the mask and going nuts.

    Thanks.

Sorry, there isn't really. Use the Layers palette to organize your masks/objects and lock them there.

Yeah -- I thought so. I guess this is one for the feature request.

It's been there for a long time, but doesn't seem to be heavily requested.

Some will disagree, but I'm a fan of the FreeHand method.

It's most likley not requested because Illustrator users haven't had it any other way. You really can;t appreciate it until you've worked with completely masked objects.

I guess we can everything we want.

Some of us actually like the Illustrator method. It would be nice if it were a feature you could turn off and on, though
