You don't, unless you write your own WDEF with support for hiding and showing
    the title bar.

Why are you trying to hide the title bar anyway? If it's to show the
window as inactive, the OS already distinguishes between active and
inactive windows in the way it renders the title bar.

If you simply want to hide the title text, you could always set it to
a zero-length string and restore it latter.

If there's some other reason, a clue might would be helpful....

I'm implementing a presentation mode for a multimedia program. If you
think of a PowerPoint presentation, you would not be far off from what
    we are doing.

The goal is to have a single window with no borders or title bar, no
menu bar, and no dock, with the window covering the screen completely.
I'm doing this from Java, though, so I don't have the luxury of
creating the window--I need to hide the title bar on an existing
    Window.

There are good ways to accomplish all of this from OS/X 10.2 and 10.3
running Java 1.4 that don't involve quite as much mucking with the
native components, and on those versions of the O/S, I use the more
modern methods. I would like the program to run from 10.1, too,
    though.

Make the window port rect the size of the screen bounds. Borders and title bar
    will thus be off-screen.

That's the approach I'm taking so far, although that seems to cause
some mouse-to-port coordinate conversion probelms for some reason.
(The application is in Java; there seems to be a coordinate
translation that assumes the window is on the screen.) It work, but
hiding the title bar would be a neater solution.
