Re: HKE Exporting from 3d Max
Since 3dsmax now uses Havok 2.0 and Shockwave 3D is still stuck with the
Havok 1.0-based Xtra, it no longer exports SW3D-compatible HKE files. You can
use 3dsmax 5 (with the for-subscribers-only exporter) or the now-defunct Plasma
1.0 (also from Discreet). The 'bes't way to do Havok in SW3D now is to model
in 3dsmax (or whatever 3D app you like), then build your physics in a blank HKE
cast member in Director.

Re: Is the Havok Xtra finally gone for good?
I wonder if we're still allowed to use the Havok Xtra at all, given that
Macromedia still has no agreement to distribute the Havok Xtra with DMX2004.
Absent a licensing agreement granting permission, we really don't have a legal
right to author with it in DMX2004 and then distribute the Xtra, do we?

Re: Is the Havok Xtra finally gone for good?
I'm sure we have no legal problems with authoring and Havok. MM's
*distribution* agreement expired, that's all. It doesn't make it illegal
to use it, even in MX2004 - at least I'm pretty certain that Tom Higgins
said as much on one of the listserves. If pressed, I'll try to dig up
the post I seem to recall.
If you need the xtra, grab it from your Shockwave folder or an earlier
version (MX?) and drop it into your MX2004 xtras folder.

OK, here it is (from Tom Higgins on 5/11/2004 to some list or other):

Isn't this stuff in the list archives multiple times already? I could swear
I've posted on this here, on dirGames-l and on Dir3d-l... <scratching my
head>
There are no legal changes for you folks. As Charles indicated, the only
thing that has changed is the fact that our license to distribute the Xtra
as part of Director expired, that's it, nothing else, nada, zip, zilch,
zero... Feel free to drop the Xtra in from elsewhere (it's in our full SW
installers and is still downloadable as part of the Xtras auto-download
process) and use away.

Re: Is the Havok Xtra finally gone for good?
You're right, Tom has outright told us that we can still use the Xtra right
here in this very forum. The thing is, I'm not sure that his post constitutes
legal permission to use and distribute a third party's code. Not that I'm
getting all conspiracy-theory, but that is something to consider in the wake of
Havok having yanked every scrap of Macromedia/Director-related material from
their website.
