I have my web page uploaded from 2002. I have two
problems. #1. I have 6 pages and it works OK until I try
and return to the home page with the link on the other
pages. I get an error message. The home page site is
[url]http://www.theofficenet.com/~earl[/url]. The link shows
[url]http://www.theofficenet.com/~earl/earl[/url] insurance
agency.htm. How do I fix this? #2. I put in the keywords
for the search engines but when I do a search I can't
find my page. Any suggestions? Thank you.

1- looks like you probably saved it when you published as "earl insurance
agency.htm" which would be incorrect, you need to save it as "index.htm".
Failure to name it correctly is covered on the 2002 issues page at

2- the fact that it can take weeks or months to get cataloged in the search
sites aside, you may have failed to load the Service Packs for Publisher.
There have been 3 now. Reference [url]www.davidbartosik.com[/url] and/or
[url]http://www.publishermvps.com[/url] for details on SP's. The keywords actually did
not work until after SP2 as documented on the 2002 issues page at
[url]http://www.davidbartosik.com/pub2002/pub2002_issues.htm[/url]

Bizarre! How can M$ sell crap like this? Every time my outrage about Publisher
begins to subside, one of you MVPs drops a bombshell like this. Geez. I bet
the class action lawyers will be interested to find out it took two service
packs to address a basic features issue like this.

Imagine then, Corel WordPerfect Office 2002 had ***4*** service packs. You
might have a better chance going after them. After all they have less money
for big expensive lawyers that MS has, which would squash you like a little
bug :-)

The simple answer is that I am, tired of your crap. M$ made a horrible mistake
giving your smart-assed self MVP status. You are wasting your breath defending
bad software. No customer wants to hear that buggy code is OK because everybody
does it.

Some degree of accountability is coming; would you argue that is a mistake? And
I am not talking about tax payer dollars; I am talking about a framework that
will allow appropriate civil action for unconscionable acts on the part of
software sellers. Many years ago congress passed a series of laws that
circumscribe the limiting language a company can put in warranties, and that has
made warranties meaningful. It takes a long time for law to catch up with
technology, but software companies are asking for it when they abuse customers
with half-baked buggy programs.

You would need to review some previous threads to understand my problem with
this guy. It is essentially his view that M$ can do no harm. Publisher,
especially 2002 and 2003 are the proof that is nonsense. His principle defense
is that all software providers are as bad or worse than M$. I was not
disrespectful to him first, believe me. He has argued I am a fool for believing
what M$ says Publisher will do, and not being smart enuff to see through there
lies about its capabilities as a website building tool. M$ has far better
ambassadors of good will in here like David B., and JoAnn P. If M$ had any
sense at all they would drop this argumentative confrontational fool like a hot
potato.

knowledge of Publisher. Use it here in the newsgroups wisely, and you will
help many. In the mean time, grow up a little. If you don't like someone
arguing your points, don't make your points here. I have been here long
before you joined this newsgroup and will be here long after you leave. Why
don't you try to make the short time you are here peaceful and mature.

In fact other MVPs in here often disagree with my largely negative attitude
about Publisher, but the debate has always been civil compared to the
interchange with you.

Call it defense or support, but why do it? If you were a major stockholder, I

after I am gone. I am highly motivated to track what goes on in this forum for
a few reasons, and as for your future, who knows?

Because it is *impossible* to release software (from ANY company) that
doesn't have bugs or security flaws. It's impossible to satisfy EVERY
consumer with a feature set. Software is written by humans, and humans are
not perfect. Test environments are not perfect. And if someone doesn't like
the new features in a released version, Microsoft offers a 100% money back
guarantee. And you can take THAT to the bank.

I stand by my assertion that you are nothing more than an argumentative jerk,
something you prove every time you open your mouth. All of a sudden I have
valuable experience with Publisher? What I have is a huge amount of wasted time
fighting with M$ over Publisher's bugs with multiple episodes sent to escalation
teams where eventually they threw their hands up. What I have is a 300 page
website stranded in Publisher 2000 because later versions are a disaster. I
will concede I know a great deal about how to trick Publisher into doing what I
want it to do, but that is a sad state of affairs.

Publisher is not suitable for a business website. Publisher does not deal with
HTML as a "native language" as claimed on the 2002 retail package. Even with
all service packs and patches in place, the latest version of Publisher
generates bloated code. Publisher politics? Perhaps, but I will not be happy
un till these issue are addressed, and part of that has to include a reasonable
way to move into another program that will not take scores of hours of code
doctoring. An unreasonable expectation? Give me a break. In any event, these
questions, and many more, are eventually headed to court if the lazy lawyers
ever get their act together.
