    Default Horrendous setup

I have had real problems getting URLs working for Contribute on my laptop.
After days of 'fiddling' I ended up phoning 'support'.

I 'had' a site with shtml files but to cut a long story short I ended up with
Dreamweaver (D8) and Con3.11 able to display and make changes but all browsers
failed to see my site when accessed via either. If I reconfigured the settings
in D8 site management then they worked but either D8 or Con3.11 broke.

So I ended up phoning support! The gist of a longish conversation was that
Contribute was a simple program and could not handle a local (on my laptop
using IIS5 - for which they had no input) site. Once I get on to a true remote
site with FTP I should have no problems (well! we shall see). I think this was
a brush-off, they could not even take me through the site setup forms.

So I've had to end up romoving all my ssi and going back to strait html files.
I am now tentitively moving forwards. Should I get Contribute 4!? Is there a
real book on the subject of using Contribute (I have the Joseph Lowery 2004 one
but it falls short of helping - the help files are better!)?

Has anyone had the same experience?

After all that I do have a question for which I would be grateful for some
    guidance:

I have a content div in which are may <p>'s which seem to me accessible in
Contribute. I have put in the library sections of code and they seem to work OK
in Contribute. I have found though, that if my content div only has div
structures encompassing <p>'s, etc. I cannot get the cursor in the right place
(in D8) to do a return and add another div structured libray item. It alway
puts the cursor within the <p> part at the end of the div. Can someone advise?

    Default Re: Horrendous setup

    ROGM,

I just set up a local site on my system running aspx (.Net) files and I could
edit files fine using contribute, connecting directly to the file system. There
should be no reason why this is not working. I have also used DW and contribute
to do local development and this has also worked fine.

I don't know if there is a book on contribute but to be honest contribute
isn't really that clever, you'd probably be better off getting a book on
Dreaweaver if that is what you are going to use for your development of the
    site.

With regard the div structures then i presume you are using the design view in
dreamweaver...From experience I have given up using that view and just use the
code view, alternatively use a bit of both..
