How can I invert my powerbook?
I am a photographer that is growing to enjoy using my wallstreet
powerbook to use as a realtime preview for my digital camera. Using
software called "Btv" I stream some crappy video into my g3's monitor.
I can't live without it, it is great!
Here is the catch. I need it to be vertical sometimes. My current 10
gig IBM drive tends to crash with even subtle movements.
could I:
a) get a rock solid harddrive.
b) run this "Btv" from a ram disk and somehow "park" the harddrive.
c) Any software workaround to "Btv" or the like.
Any thoughts?

Yes. Try looking at <xlr8yourmac.com> for some ideas. Your disk drive
should be more stable than to flake out just because you moved a
portable computer. I have a Pismo with an IBM 48GB Travelstar and it
never gives me troubles when I walk from the living room to the porch to
the kitchen to the bedroom, etc... (and it is still running when I make
these moves).
X b) run this "Btv" from a ram disk and somehow "park" the harddrive.
Depending on the version of Mac OS (Classic or Mac OS X) there are RAM
disk utilities available. And if you have the RAM to support giving
over enough for Btv to run out of, that would also conserve your battery
life by allowing the hard disk to spin down.
Try searching <versiontracker.com> for such utilities. Mac OS Classic
includes a RAM disk option in the Memory Control Panel.
But a flaky harddisk should be replaced even if you do figure out how to
use a RAM disk.
