How can you open CS files with previous versions? - Adobe Illustrator Macintosh

I already have a brand new Illustrator CS in my company. However, everytime we make a new file with this version, all other previous versions of Illustrator can't open those files. We temporarely solved the problem using Freehand MX 2004. Macromedia's can open CS files with no problem at all and make'em compatible with illustrator 8, 9 and 10. Does anyone know how to save files in CS that can be compatible with previous Illustrator's versions? Thanks in advance

So how do those CS files look in Illustrator 10 after they've gone through Freehand MX? Everything - type, images, transparency - came through fine?

In CS, you now have to Export to legacy formats.

Only difference between Illustrator and Freehand, is visual. When you open CS files in Freehand, at first sight looks a little different, colors have a little variation and pictures are slightly pixelated, but once you save the converted files as eps, you can use any version of illustrator to open the file and looks exactly the same as the original one.

Transparency is preserved if you flatten before export. If not, is converted to Freehand's default, which is not really transparency, but a lighter color patch instead.

Thank you very much for your fast answer. I checked the Legacy export option. Finaly I can get back to work without wasting time exporting to freehand... to be honest, I don't like freehand, but sometimes is quite useful.

    Thanks
