How Do I apply the Craquelure texture? - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I'm trying to apply the Craquelure texture from the Filters menu but it is greyed out? What is wrong? How can this be fixed or what do I have to do?...

Evan, that is a raster-targeted filter, so if you're trying to apply it to a vector object, you won't be able to unless you rasterize it first.

EDIT: Furthermore, it must be RGB.

    Evan:

John is incorrect. You can apply this effect , but you MUST be:
    1. In RGB mode (John got this part right; and
    2. Applying an EFFECT, not a FILTER.

The bottom list of filters apply mostly to raster objects, but the live effects apply raster-type transformations to vector artwork, as long as you're working in RGB mode. Of course, you can apply an effect, and later convert the file to CMYK, but you may need to rasterize the object first if you do. Look into the raster effects settings to gain further control over all this stuff.
