Default How do I apply color?

I'm a brand new user to Illustrator. I'm working on a logo, which I made using a series of connected lines using the line tool. I'm trying to apply color to the design and having no success. I figured out how to use the paint brush tool, but it's quite difficult and tedious to stay inside the lines. Is there a way to select an area in which to automatically fill with color? Help. Thanks.

Your shape need to be one continuopus closed path. Redraw using the pen tool, and make sure you see a small circle in your cursor when you finish the path by clicking on your starting point. Do this for all the shapes in the logo, or use primitive tools (triangle, oval, rectangle, etc). These paths can be filled with colours or gradients.

You sound liek you come from a Photoshop background. Illustrator is a very different critter.
