Re: how do I change the file type
You do in XP exactly the same. First you disable the option to hide known
file extensions (folder options->view tab), then have at it. This is exactly
the same as it was on 9x.

To the OP, Changing an extension does not change the files
type, only what program may TRY to open the program.
Use the "file/ save as" command to save the file in a new
format with the proper extension.

Use Windows Explorer under Start-All Programs-Accessories
Right-click the file and select "Rename"
