How do I get the index in an insert? - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

If you used IDENTITY columns in your table, you can use the IDENTITY gloabl variable to get the last value that was inserted and return this value back to the caller. If you used some other scheme to get the auto-generated values, you need to SELECT the value back again and return the same to the caller. -- HTH, SriSamp Please reply to the whole group only! http://www32.brinkster.com/srisamp "Jon Davis" <ME.PLEASE.jondavis.net> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... ...

Look up IDENTITY in Books Online (BOL). You will find that IDENTITY (or
better yet: SCOPE_IDENTITY) will contain the last identity value created IN
THE CURRENT SESSION. Inserts made by users in other sessions will not cause
    that value to change.

    I don't know - still haven't installed .NET yet.

Yes - IDENTITY was added to Jet 4.
