How long does it take to do an upgrade installation of Adobe CS?
I've requested an upgrade to Adobe CS and am told it will take about 8 hours to fully install. Is this accurate? I'm currently running OSX 10.2.8. and Suitcase 10.2.2. I realize it would be wise to upgrade both of these as well, but are they required to run Adobe CS? What font issues should I watch out for when installing CS?
Thank you.

I don't know about issues with Suitcase, since I don't use it. But eight hours? More like about eight minutes. If that.

Well if you're upgrading the OS and other applications, I could see allotting a few hours. Depending upon the procedure used. But as Gary posted the actual CS upgrade should take less than 15 minutes.

But if you have concerns about font issues, READ THE ENTIRE THREAD "Illustrator CS: Let's talk about the new text engine" above!!! The install may not take 8 hours, but coordinating it into your workflow could take years if you're not fully informed in advance.

Re: How long does it take to do an upgrade installation of Adobe CS?
We are running OS X 10.3.3 with Suitcase X1 and have few problems. Illustrator does quit perhaps a time or two a day on people. A few can kill it more often, but this seems to happen to speed freaks on older systems. The key, I think is not getting too far ahead of it. Hitting short cut keys before it has fininshed an operation like printing, for example.
Lately, I've noticed that the CS Suite installer seems to hang up at about 90% complete. As in, the bar stops moving for 15+ minutes. It will eventually finish if you leave it for long enough. Going to lunch or a long meeting has worked for me. We have really tweeked our OS X configuration, so maybe that is the problem. But I don't remember it doing this before.
If you are already running OS X and Suitcase, then you may have already dealt with the nasty, nasty font issues. This took us longer than any other issue, by far. Prior to our move to OS X and CS, we were not using suitcase and had numerous old, pre 1989 fonts. Suitcase X1 and the bundled Font Doctor have all kinds of ideas about which fonts are corrupted or defective. Running our collections through Font Doctor, letting it reorganize and separate, was eventually successful, in most cases. Finding a more original (uncorrupted) version of the font was required in others. Hours and hours.
Also, Suitcase's "Scan when opening" preference finds fault with some fonts supposedly cleared or fixed by Font Doctor. Also, if you leave that preference checked, and add a large number of fonts at once, it may say some of them are corrupt, even though it opens the same fonts without error on subsequent tries.
Font management in OS X is disapponting, at best.

Darren -- Did you intend to post this at "Font and possibly crashing issue fix for Illustrator CS and Suitcase X1 users"? It seems possibly more appropriate to that thread.

No, but you're right, it would be.
