How Much Better are Dual Processor Systems at Multi-Tasking Under OS-X? - Mac Applications & Software

OS-X is supposed to be quite good at multi-tasking on even a single processor system. I've got a dual-processor G4, but I don't have a single-processor G4 to compare it to. How much better is a dual-processor system vs. a single-processor system at multi-tasking under OS-X? -Vik...

    I have a three-year-old dual 500 MHz G4 for work. Day-to-day it runs
    10.1.5.

I have a (barely) one-year-old 800 MHz iMac in the kitchen. It runs
    10.2.6.

Even though the dualie is older and runs a known slower version of OS X
it still feels much faster in all aspects of operation. Personally, I
    wouldn't consider a uni-G5.

You might check the June, 2003 Macworld magazine online. The issue had
a review of the dual 1.25 G4 and there was some discussion in the
review comparing it to the single processor Mac.

Yes you have :-) , just take a look at this link:
    http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1141.html
I found that the best way to disable a cpu is to type:
    % sudo nvram boot-args="cpus=1"
in the terminal window without using any other info on that page.
If you want to use both cpu's again, simply reboot and clear your pram.

When you disable one cpu, you will notice the difference right away!
I have a dual 867, perhaps the difference is not so huge on faster
    machines.
