For anyone who wants to see what a real pro can do with Illustrator (and some Photoshop), check out the following link. Apparently this was the result of 720 hours of work over two months.

Is there an implication that the cruise ship person is NOT a "real pro"?

The work is amazing. Enviable. I wonder why did he use Photoshop to color it, the same thing could've been done in Illustrator, and the file wouldn't weight 640MB... But that's just my hurt ego's speaking :D

I figure, the worst thing in this process would be creating the cross-section geometry with enough topological accuracy for it to not look false, and to keep the inside details accurate too. I can see in places the perspective is skewed just a tiny bit, almost imperceptible... Amazing work. And amazing patience.

With that much time spent, I wonder if something like Lightwave 3D might have been a better choice of software.

Did he do it for kicks, or is it actually economically feasable to spend 720 hours on one project?

Yeah, Illustrator world, some of the stuff there really knocks me out.

that would appear to be the "Navigator of the Seas". Out future daughter in law is a principal skater now (just crossed over from Disney on Ice) on her. She actually has a pretty fair sized ice rink (as do other Royal Carribean ships). Very nice illustration job. I can certainly see where the time went to create it. I liked the elephant in the pool area. I'll soon see it's actually there. My wife and I have reservations on her early October. Time for another cruise John?
