    Default How to clone

Sorry to be so dense about these things--I **do** have books and yet can't
figure this out (hopefully learning curve will decline).

I have a background image that is 100x100 pixels. I want to make it "tile"
so that I can make a 300x60 pixel button à la PVII Uberlink. I've tried
using the rubber stamp, but it tells me my object should be "floating"to use
it (what the heck does that mean?), and cut and paste only works once (i.e.
it pastes the gif into the middle of the new image but refuses to paste
copies of it to the left and right).

I realize this is basic--I'm simply graphics challenged, though I intend to
hang in there! Any ideas? Thanks!

after it pastes it in the middle you select it using the little black arrow
tool and slide it to the side, it will move leaving the original one
    underneath.

When you figure this out you will feel incredibly dumb, at least I did when
I finally (after hours of frustration) discovered it. :-)

Ohh shoot i just re-read your posts,,,
here's a trick i do once in awhile:
once i have everything i want in place on my layers, i'ld select the
components I want to copy using the technique i said in earlier post, while
holding down the shift key commiting al the components to memory, i
sometimes open a NEW FW document, then paste those elements in it.That gives
    you a new document,
with your original one in tact. The pasted one will NOT be editable, cause
it only pastes the elements paths and attributes(colors, effects,, etc),,
not the layers, because in the new document, you'ld only have one layer with
the element you cut in it.

    Does that make sense?

Huh, have you tried using pattern fills? I mean, create your object, then in
Properties panel go for Fill -> Pattern, then Texture - Other, and you'll be
able to load some image file from you hard drive.

Well, it **looks** like a rubber stamp. What do I know, though? ;-)
Anyway, Ilya showed me a better way to do it, so for now I'm good!
