Try this tutorial. It should get you out of the gate as far as understanding the proper brush settings.

Oops! I saw that picture and thought this was the Illustrator Forum. That's the trouble with subscribing to more than one forum with the same screen name. Oh well. If Kevin has Illustrator my screen shot might help. :)
