    Default how to emboss letters

Hi, how do you make writing look like it's been stamped into leather? or
stainless steel - I know it's got something to do with the punch tool, but I
    can't figure it out! thanks

Use the live effects - there's an emboss effect in with the bevels... you
might also like to experiment with inner glows and inner shadows.

It's all an illusion... remember that when you're playing with the
parameters. The "angle" parameter will have the greatest effect here,
changing what seems to be an inset emboss to a raised emboss. Check this
    first.

Colors will also have an effect to some extent, but it could simply be that
you've been staring at it for too long. I used to think that with inner
bevels... they ceased to look like raised bevels when I looked at them for
    too long.
