HOW TO EXCHANGE EDITABLE FILES BETWEEN ILLUSTRATOR CS AND MACROMEDIA MX?
Having created a logo in Illustrator (version 10 for pc) I then transferred it to my new mac with CS version of Illustrateur. I now need to transfer it by email to someone who DOESN'T have illustrator but does have Corel draw and macromedia MX. He needs to be able to edit the logo but we can't find a way for him to do this. I have tried exporting the file as an EPS ( TIFF format), and as a SWF but whilst he can open them he still can't edit them.
Does anyone have any experience of sharing Illustrator vector files with pc users of macromedia mx or Corel?

Export in legacy .ai format, version 8 or prior.

I believe Macromedia apps recognize the Illustrator .eps format. Not sure of version, but probably not CS, so export is still the way to go.

MX is sort of akin CS. It defines the entire suite. But your point is good: the acceptable formats may indeed be different from one app to another. I haven't tested it extensively.

Re: HOW TO EXCHANGE EDITABLE FILES BETWEEN ILLUSTRATOR CS AND MACROMEDIA MX?
Export in legacy .eps format, version 8. Version 8 is the last version based on postscript instead of pdf, so Corel or FreeHand maybe can't edit the later format. The earlier version should give him an editable postscript file.
I'm curious to know if FreeHand MX can open an editable file saved out of Illustrator CS specifically as pdf instead of eps.

Re: HOW TO EXCHANGE EDITABLE FILES BETWEEN ILLUSTRATOR CS AND MACROMEDIA MX?
Thanks for the advice
Finally he was able to work with the logo (in Freehand, Scott) when I sent the file saved as
Illustrator EPS with doc fonts checked and CMYK postscript level 2 . He then put them through Distiller (acrobat)
However he said it wasn't ideal and would have preferred the .ai option in version 7 of Illustrator (did version 7 ever exist? not an option in CS. I have 3 or 8 - nothing between).
He wasn't able to open the .ai version 8 file - even though he had no trouble opening other Ilustrator version 10 files in the past.
It's weird some illustrator files open in Freehand and others don't. I think files including effects influence the outcome.
We'll try the pdf option.

Re: HOW TO EXCHANGE EDITABLE FILES BETWEEN ILLUSTRATOR CS AND MACROMEDIA MX?
As a test, I resaved an eps file as a pdf file in Illustrator CS with the .pdf extension in the file name. I tried opening in CorelDraw 9 and it wouldn't open. Then, instead I tried importing into CorelDraw, selecting pdf as the file format. The file opened and it was fully editable. Hope this helps.
