How to find out info on this .rpm file? - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Dear experts, I know how to query whether something is already installed on my machine. rpm -qa | grep somefeature However, say I have a file: something.rpm What is the command to find out it's contents, what it is, prerequisites, etc. ie. command -flag something.rpm And without searching the web for doentation. I've read the man pages for rpm, but it's not obvious. Is it a different command? Thanks...

    Dear experts,

    I know how to query whether something is already
    installed on my machine.

    rpm -qa | grep somefeature

    However, say I have a file: something.rpm

    What is the command to find out it's contents,
    what it is, prerequisites, etc. ie.

    command -flag something.rpm

    And without searching the web for doentation.

    I've read the man pages for rpm, but it's not obvious.
    Is it a different command?

    Thanks

    rpm also. Just add the p flag to indicate it's a RPM file you are
    dealing with, not an installed packages. E.g.

    rpm -qlp something.rpm to find out what's inside it
    rpm -qip something.rpm to read the package info

    [You're over-crossposting. This is a simple question.]

    If it's already installed you would use:
    rpm -qi filename.rpm

    If it isn't installed:
    rpm -qp -i filename.rpm

    Or if you want to list the file in the package.

    Package installed:
    rpm -ql filename.rpm

    Package not installed.
    rpm -qp -l filename.rpm

    There are other options but I haven't used rpm in a while and
    things have been known to change.

    To query a package use

    $ rpm -qp something.rpm

    You might also want

    $ rpm -qpl something.rpm

    to list the files installed by a package or

    $ rpm -qp --info something.rpm

    I know what you mean, but it is a very versatile command.

    etc., etc., etc. The "-q" and "-p" is the key
