how to get "palette" window appearance? - Mac Programming

You know how lots of drawing programs have floating palette windows for various tools. These windows are usually characterized by a smaller than usual title bar. Aside from the issue of how to make a window float at the top of the z-ordering (which I am looking into as well), how does one generate a window resource (or create a window from code) that has that appearance? Neither ResEdit nor Resorcer seem to have any way of specifying it. Thanks. __________________________________________________ ______________________ Keith Wiley unm.edu http://www.unm.edu/~keithw http://www.mp3.com/KeithWiley "Yet mark his perfect self-contentment, and hence learn his lesson, that to be ...

    In carbon, you should use 1984 as window type. There are variants, but I
    don't recall them.

    In modern Carbon, you'd create a window of either kFloatingWindowClass
    or kUtilityWindowClass. See MacWindows.h for details.

    You can also create these in Interface Builder, of course. :)

    Hope this helps,

    How or where does one "use 1984 as window type". I don't know what that
    means. Is there some function for changing the type of a window? There
    certainly doesn't appear to be a place in CreateNewWindow to put this
    number.

    Also, what's the function for changing existing window attributes. I wish
    this stuff was easier to search for on developer.apple.com.

    That'd be ChangeWindowAttributes(). :)

    Sometimes it's easier to find things in the headers than online. I
    found that one by searching through MacWindows.h looking for
    "attributes".
