Matthiew Brown has made a 3D extension for Fireworks that's available at
the Macromedia Exchange. Type the letter and use the Skew tool to shape
it. Apply Mr. Brown's 3D effect maker.

I tried it, it just does tacky 3-d effects, is there a way it can do a real sleek 3-d effect like?

    Some options:

This can make things as subtle or as cheesy as you would like.

Or if you would prefer to do it yourself in Fireworks, Thes might be of
    help.

Having used that app myself for a while I can say that defaults tend to
be on the cheesy side, it is a system hog and quite unintuitive to use.
It is rather inexpensive or at least was when I bought it a while ago.

Another product in the same vein and price range but that is apparently
much easier to use is Xara 3D. I never tried it myself but if it is like
Xara X which I have tried before it certainly is much easier to use than
Ulead's Cool3D. You can find that here:

    http://www.xara.com/products/xara3d/

Beyond that, the original poster has not specified if he has the whole
Studio MX 2004 suite or what version of it but, if he does, there's no
need to look further than FreeHand MX and its new Extrude tool which
would accomplish the task quickly and easily. Fireworks does not have
the tools to create and manipulate 3D objects in a usable manner but the
one third party extension that might help is ProjectFireworks' K3D that
can be found in the package here:
