How to recover EFS certificate after hard crash
My XP/Pro system bit the dust so I installed new
processor and motherboard. System would not boot so I
used the XP recovery function on the OEM disk that came
with the computer. At the "Activate/Register" stage I
had no IP connection so I called MS and entered the
number provided by them. System seemed to work fine
(except I had to change drive letters on a few storage
devices). And then I tried to access some data that was
encrypted before the crash ... it does not decrypt for
me. I've read some of the articles on exporting and
importing certificates (which I had never done) and tried
unsuccessfully to access the data. So, system is running
on my admin level account, same id, same password, but no
readable data. Any thoughts? I also run Norton's version
of autosaving deleted files so there are some
possibilites there but I don't know where to start. Any
thoughts? Oh, forgot to mention, the system does not
accept what should be the correct pw for Administrator
account.
Thanks in advance.
