how to register people for a email list.

Hi everyone, Im working for a small company and am going to start a new site.
The site is suppose to have a way to have people register for a email list.
Now the trust is I dont know the first thing about this. Is there anyway
someone could explain how you do this for a website? Also if anyone knows of a
good tutorial site that shows how to do it that would be really good. Any help
will be appreciate.

Do you simply want to capture the email addy's for future use, or do you want
them to be able to subscribe to an email list service?

I just setup a client with a super elegant way to subsribe to a listserve and
I never have to touch the addy's. The system does everything. I then can go in
and "manage" the list if I so choose.

yea it needs to be a email list service. I have no idea how to set up a client
to do that. Is that just a email name or is it more. Im very much clueless on
this. But yea i would like a way that i dont have to touch a thing, just let
it do itself. If you can explain a little more or if anyone else could help I
would appreciate it.
