How to set up a Frame Buffer console ? (Text console bigger than 80x24) - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Hi, I have setup a RH9 box that by default logs into a text console (24x80). This is fine, but it would be nice for certain apps if I could switch to a mode where I have more than the 80 columns and 24 rows. I do not want this to be the default. I just want to be able to switch to say a mode of 80x50 or 100x60 or whatever. Is Frame Buffer Console the correct term for this ? Regards Anton Erasmus...

    Hi,

    With a 2.6 kernel, you just check that your kernel is complied with the
    options CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE, CONFIG_FB and CONFIG_FB_<your_card>.
    Then you add the following parameter to the kernel :
    video=<the video mode wanted>
    (cf. /usr/src/linux/Doentation/fb/modedb.txt in the linux sources)
