    to start an other program, but the parent process
    remains independent running.

    Win32::FileOp is available via ppm and has a ShellExecute function.

    I haven't seen the original post, so I'm piggybacking:

    Look at Win32::Process.

    I am not sure if you are describing the desired functionality or the
    observed and undesired functionality when you are talking about "the
    parent process remains independent running".

    Anyway, if you want to run an external command in the background in
    Windows, i.e. system() should return immediately and the called program
    should run in parallel with the Perl script, then use "start'.

    Hi Roland

    I've used Win32::Process::Create. Here's is how I launched a
    Powerbuilder executable from my Perl script:

    Win32::Process::Create($ProcessObj,
    "p:\\pdfcreate\\bin\\npdfcreate.exe",
    "npdfcreate.exe $inquiry",
    0,
    DETACHED_PROCESS,
    ".")|| die ErrorReport();

    Good Luck
