The limits are implicit in the product. As I understand it, OS X should
be 10, OS X Server should be unlimited. Presuming you have physical
access to the machine, look at "About This Mac" in the Apple menu.

OS X Server comes in two versions - a 10 client version, and an unlimited
    client version: <http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/>

Last time I checked you could tell from within the main Admin Utility, however this was different betwenn the different versions of OS X Server.

It has something to do with File Sharing, I think. Not so sure why it is needed anymore, though.

The answer I'm about to give you is vague, and I apologize for that, but I
no longer admin any OSXS machines so I don't have one to refer to. If you
go into Server Settings and poke around the Apple File Service
configuration options, there is a setting for "maximum client connections."
This will be set to 10 and cannot be increased on the 10-client version.

It's actually determined by license code, and should be indicated on the CD
    packaging which one you have.

In Server Settings try to set the limits on the number of
clients which can be connected to 20. If you quit and go
back in and find that the server has 'corrected' this to
10 then you have the 10-user version.

I don't have a server handy and can't check here quite
    where that setting is.
