How to use mp3 files with XMMS ? - Ubuntu

Hello folks. New to Ubuntu. I installed xmms but can't play mp3 files, also can't play them in Totem movie player. What additional codec (?) files do I need + where can I get them ? Please reply to NG. Thanks, -JS...

    As mentioned in the 'Thunderbird 1.5' thread, Automatix will install
    all the codecs you'll need. A quick Google should turn up the link
    or I think I posted one in that thread.

    If you don't want to install all the other mmedia codecs, the one you need
    is gstreamer0.8-mad

    Make sure the package "ubuntu-docs" is installed.
    Then select "About Ubuntu" in the "System" menu, click the "Help Topics"
    button and go to the "Ubuntu Starter Guide". It has a section about
    multimedia in chapter "Applications" that list what packages you need
    and how to install them.


    As Im using German locales I may guessed some english titles wrong ;-)
