How to validate an ISO download?

Hi all,

I have downloaded several copies of 6.06 and when
I validate them after burning they come up bad. How
do I validate the ISO image BEFORE burning it?

The validation is the md5 on the .iso file -- where validation is
supposed to be done on the downloaded .iso, not on something after
burning. In fact, I don't even know what you are trying to validate
after you burn.

All of the mirrors have a place called md5sums or something similar --
where a list of md5/s is given, one line each pertaining to the
particular .iso on the mirror.

I'm such a ubuntu newb that I do all of that stuff with Win apps,
download with FileZilla, check md5 with HashCalc, burn with Nero.
