    Default HTML Closing Tag

I am writing a php application (not important). I use a php script to query
the database and then populate a selection list . The script does not provide
a closing tag. It results in:

    <td><select name=typeid>
    <option value="1">Architect
    <option value="5">Block and Masonry
    <option value="9">Building Matl
    etc.

Should I not end each of these with a closing </option>? When I mock it up in
DW2.004, the closing tag is added.

    Default Re: HTML Closing Tag

The closing tag is optional in HTML4.01. It is not in XHTML1x.

Best practices would require that you close them, though.

:D Thanks, Murray. That's the same answer I got from the php-guru to whom I
shoot php questions. I've modified the Selects that came immediately to mind
and will catch the remainder as I do my final code walk-thru. I'm trying to
make it XHTML compliant just because. This app has no reason to use XML, at
least not in its current configuration, but practise makes near-perfect.
