Huge file sizes on InDesign
Hi folks,
I have been using InDesign 2.0 since last year. I really love it! But it really bugs me with the hugest file sizes I've ever seen!
I am doing a restaurant menu with 30 pages. It has almost 150 small pictures (2x2 inches) in 240 dpi resolution. They were placed as PSD files. Why my InDesign file has 160 megabytes in size?

Yes, "Save As" works for me. Please let us know if that works for you.

Re: Huge file sizes on InDesign
No, I haven´t embedded the images, I just linked them. I tried to use the Save As, but the file size reduced from 166 to 160 megabytes.
Does someone else have a tip?

Re: Huge file sizes on InDesign

Hi, it's me again. :D
It has almost 150 small pictures (2x2 inches) in 240 dpi resolution. They
were placed as PSD files.
Where these images 2X2 when you scanned them? Please don't tell me that you had some 8X10's scanned in at 240DPI, cropped to a square, (i.e. 8X8) placed in InDesign then scaled down to 2X2.
It seems as though these images are embedded because there is no other reason I can think of for the file size being so big.
If you are faced with something similar to the example above, you need to take the original scanned images that are in 240DPI, scale them down to 2X2 in a photo editing application (i.e. Photoshop) then save a copy for your publication.
When you are finished, you can now place the smaller files in InDesign and this should reduce the file size dramatically.
You need to ensure you are not embedding these links to your publication. It seems that is the only reason for this file blowing up so much.
Also try doing a copy and paste with everything from your document to a new one to see if this makes it smaller.
Me avise sim ou não.
Obrigado
