Ooooooohhhhhhh! Painfull tale!
One thing crosses my mind, Kim - during WW2, bomber crews wrote messages for
"the enemy" on their bombs. Usually not very complimentary ones! Heh! I'd
have a peek inside the box if I were you (if/when you ever get it back! Ever
heard of "Lost in the post"??????? A classic fall-back for any Customer
Service team!).

Re: I Hate Hewlett Packard Part Deux
The hard drive is not user serviceable? That's loopy. They have very clear
instructions for replacing/upgrading the memory modules for your laptop on
their website, which is on a par with the replacing the hard drive.
The hard drive should be sled-based and require nothing more than a Philips
head screwdriver to replace. About the only tricky this is setting up the
HP diagnostics partition after the new HD is installed and even that is
optional.
Are you supposed to ship them the laptop again when you decide to upgrade
the hard drive to a larger model?
Are all those companies selling laptop hard drives to end users just wasting
their time? These people are doing some very interesting drugs.
Hope it gets sorted out. Keep us posted.
Cheers,
Sam

Sam--
Yep, that's exactly how it's mounted and the way that I replaced the HD
when they sent me the last one. There are instructions on how to do it
in the User's Manual as well. Too bad the pins weren't the right length
and it didn't seat properly.
It's a pain in the butt to say the least. I bought a kit yesterday and
now have a functioning Windows machine again, but I really wuld prefer a
laptop. Maybe someday......

should be considered a user-serviceable item. Granted, they usually put a
dollop of medium weight Loc-Tite on the hard drive bay screw, but that's
generally just to keep it from shaking loose.
It just seems ludicrous that they just didn't ship you a new hard drive for
you to install YOURSELF, with the understanding that you would return the
defective one after salvaging any data off of it.
And so it goes...
