rub a part of it in?
You want to cut a bit out?
If you've drawn a line then it will be a vector so you need to select the
line, choose the knife tool and make cuts in the line.
Deselect the line and then reselect the bit you cut then hit delete.

Rub part of it? Do you mean erase a part of it? If that's what you mean
then you don't need to do that. Just select the line with the black
arrow tool and enter a new lenght for the line in the Property
inspector's Width (W) or Height (H) fields. Fireworks is a vector based
application. You have to shift your thinking from working with pixels or
pixel selections like in Photoshop to working with objects that have
editable properties. Fireworks does have pixel based bitmap tools but
its core toolset is vectors like in Illustrator or FreeHand or
CorelDraw. That means that you can always resize an object, make a stoke
thicker or change the color of anything without loss of quality.

    HTH!
