    Default I must Free Transform!

    [also posted to desktoppublishing]

I'm proposing we get a small logo printed on transparent adhesive and adhere it to the glass door of our business. I've got a photograph of the door, taken at a slight angle. I want to match the angle in my vector drawing of the logo [after which I'll apply a 'reflection' or two - the idea is a simple trompe l'oeil to convey what the thing would look like.

I can't believe I've never done this in Illustrator before, but it seems to be: I would group my little logo along with a large box, stretch the box to the distorted dimensions of the door, and let the angles find tehmselves. The same as a Free Transform works in Photoshop. I can't seem to get there with any compbination of Select, Direct Select, and command/option/shift keys. Am I missing something? [I usally am - hence, message boards.]

    Thanks in advance.

Try Filter - Distort - Free Distort.

You won't see the background elements so matching angles this way is next to impossible.

You can also try the shear tool located under the scale tool.

You can also use envelope - make with mesh

The free transform tool first select a corner of the bounding box of the rectangle start dragging the corner then while still dragging hold down the command key after you get those sides to where you want do the same to any other corner first let go of the command key then start dragging then hold the command key down while still dragging. if you group everything they will do as you planned to do in the first place.

    Your thinking is correct.

Perfect! Having learned the world on Photoshop, my downfall is always that I try to do everything eithout leaving the Selection tool. At a certain point, I become like a monkey with a typewriter, just pounding on every button until something good happens - I might have come up witht he complete works of Shakespeare sooner than clicking a handle THEN holding down the command keys.

    Thanks much.
