Default I need help installing a internal hard drive in my Mac g4.

I was given a internal hard drive (10 gig) that I want to install into
my Mac G4 towner. I tried once but the computer would not boot up. I
am sure I have to have some software installed so it can recognize the
hard drive. However, this was not given to me. Can anyone recommend
what I shoudl do? Any step by steps instructions on installing this
    hard drive and using it?
    Thanks

You can have two hard drives attached to the same cable.

One hard drive must be the "master." One hard drive must be the "slave." You
set a hard drive as a Master or a Slave by moving a "jumper,' which is a small
square plastic deal. The hard drive will have a sticker somewhere on it that
tells you where the jumper is located and how to set it.

The hard drive in your computer now is master. the new hard drive you have is
probably also set to master. that is why the computer would not boot--you can
not have tow hard drives both set to Master.

Set the new hard drive to Slave. Put it in your computer. Then run Disk Utility
or Drive Setup to format the drive.
