Default I need some help quick...

After making a graphic for screen printing, I will PDF it out to proof my seperations. This works great. I then need to make a "drawing" that shows all of the seperate films. The way I do this is I place the PDF one page at a time into my new drawing. It usually works great...except for today.

When I place the PDF pages into this new drawing, and view it in outline mode...it comes in not as paths, but rather in a box with an "X" through it...as if I placed a raster image in the drawing.

I need it to import as paths so I can dimension to points.

Please help...I need to get this project out!

    TIA!!!!

    Hey Dean :)

What program do you PDF it from and where do you place it? What version of AI do you use and what system you're working on?

    Aleander,

I Print to a PS file, (Out of AI 10) then PDF it in Distiller. I try to place it back into AI 10. You may wonder why I take it out id AI them bring it back in. The film seperations (in the original file) are created in thier own color. But on the final drawing showing all the films in thier seperated form, they need to be black. All of them. Does that make sense?

I just learned something. If I "flatten transparency" it makes the image the way I want it.

The system I'm working on is a Dell workstation. I know it has plenty of everything. (Sorry, in too much of a hurry right now to type in all the specs)

    Thoughts?

    Hi, Dean :)

I understand perfectly the export of PS files, I've done it myself on numerous occasions ;)

Now, the only two reasons I can come up with for the placed file to be shown as a crossed box are:
    1. the file only contains a bitmap (on some stage its contents became a bitmap)
    2. the file is linked and not embedded. Are you sure the file isn't linked?

I might as well miss something, though. Anybody, any other ideas?
