Default I really need your help

I scanned in 5 images from slides and saved each one in a particular folder and left all five images open on the screen. Each was scanned from PSCS using File-import. I then modified them individually by cropping, smart blur etc saving each one with mod at the end of the original file name.
The first was fine, the second displayed an error "file cannot be saved due to a disc error". I trried again with the same result. The third, fourth and fifth image saved without problem.
I then went back to the original of the second image and carried out the modifications again but still could not save the modified image.
Why should one out of five be showing this problem.
Your help would be very welcom, I am reluctant to close down any of the images unless I can find the answer to the problem
I am using Mac OS 10.2.8

    charles,

Please understand that many of the folks here will simply ignore all "generically" headed postings, such as yours and others that just request some kind of unspecified "HELP!"

I recommend that in the future you use some key words related to the problem at hand in your subject header to get the highest number of responses to your problem. For example, you could have headed this topic: "Disc save error after scanning".

In addition, it would be helpful to know which scanner and which scanner plug-in you are using, and if you had downloaded and installed the latest version. What happens if you close the scanned and saved image, and only then open it once more to work on?

    Thanks.

I have just read the earlier post about psd disc error on save, and would make a couple of comments.
I have now tried to save the file as a tiff and get the same error message..
If the problem is a drive problem why has four of my files all saved correctly, one before and three after?.
Why this same image even when going back to the start point and re adjusting.
I can see that the original file may have got corrupted even though I dont know how, but from my experience just now and reading carefully through all the comments in the previous thread, in particicular the person with several Macs, to claim it is hard drive seems overly simplistic.
Of course if my hard drives fails later today I will feel very foolish
I will now go back and try to save to my external drive

    charles,

Yes, this could be an intermitent problem. And could be indicative of a hard drive error (failing hard drive; poor cabling or loose cable or power connections; improper termination; saving across a network instead of to a local hard drive; etc.).

Further to my last post trying to save the file to my external hard drive failed as well.
Neil, thank you for your comments, I will learn from your advice.
I scanned the slides using an Epson 1240U scanner and have installed the latest driver. I know the scanner is old but it has worked fine for the other slides..
Incidently I have copied all four images to a new blank page in Photoshop after adjusting image size and the new page saved without a problem.
I have not tried to close the image yet because I dont want to lose it if it can be saved

As Neil indicate you may have a small very localize problem on your hard disk and also it just may have simply occurred during this particular scan.

You can try to open it in Illustrator if you have it then export it as .psd or tif and then try your adjustments and save in Photoshop.

word of advice always save your scans before working on them.

    Buko,
I appreciate your advice. The original scan is, (or was?? - I wont know till I close and try to reopen) saved. As I said in my original post I saved the original then modified the file and tried to "save as" with the modifications and that is when the gremlin struck, but only with that file

    first try purging the memory

    if that does not work

    try a save as

    if that does not work

can you jump over to IR and save??

    Charles-

What Buko said. Save As and close each scan after scanning (scanning uses lots of resources). When you open a saved scan file to work on it, immediately "Save As' with a changed file name before you start working. That will preserve your time investment in creating the original scan.

Restart your Mac and rescan using the above workflow. If you still have problems start a new thread, properly named and with detailed system and hardware info.

Couldn't hurt to run Disk Warrior either -- just to be sure.

Thanks to all who responded. I am not really sure what happened, and some of the comments suggested things I had already done but in the end I bit the bullet closed all of the images , restarted photoshop opened and remodified the second image and all was well.
Once again thank you for your helpful suggestions
