Cannot say I have handled the 300D or any of the top end P&S (G3/5 5700 etc)
but would think that there no more "plasticky" than them. But I would think
its worth the extra money for the flexibablity and handling and image
quanity it "appears" to give. But each to his own.

Yeah.. you're paying $1500 for the sensor, $300 for the body.. but since the
sensor and the lens is what gives you the image, it isn't so important how
plasticky the body is, except for durability I guess.. But really, in this
day and age of digital cameras, you're bound to get the next latest and
greatest in a couple of years time anyway, so why pay for durability you're
    probably not going to need?

Thats one way of looking at it, anyway. Myself, I bought the 10D :)

    the
    you're

I agree that to, say, pros, having a digi sensor is worth a couple of
thousand over an equivalent film body, but since for the same price (in n.
america) you could get a mint condition EOS-1V, F5, Dynax 9 or Contax AX I
would be reluctant to pay the same for something that is to those cameras
what a hyundai accent is to a lambo murcielago. As many people point out,
both cars get you from a to b ;)

Everyone has priorities i guess...and everyone is sensitive to marketing to
    some degree ;)
