IBOOK MODEM UPDATE NOT GOOD!

    Default IBOOK MODEM UPDATE NOT GOOD!

    I just installed the iBook Mac OS X modem update to see
    if my modem connections get more reliable and now all
    I get is connections of 46667 bps ALWAYS! At least in
    the past I use to get connections of 48000 bps from
    time to time, but now is ALWAYS 46667!! ANY IDEA???

    Other Apple modem upgrades I have used had a Read Me file that explained
    that the initial connection speed would appear lower, but the actual
    throughput would be just as good as it was before, or even better.

    Modem speed is negotiated throughout the connection, so it may raise or
    lower all the time, while you are surfing the internet. The initial
    number you get doesn't matter a whole lot. The difference is miniscule
    anyway; 1333 bits per second, about 167 bytes per second, or 0.163
    kilobytes per second.

    Bottom line: even if there is a difference, you probably won't notice
    it, but in this case I doubt there's really been a change. You should
    consider yourself lucky that you even get 46667, honestly.
